Purpose of Symposium:  The purpose of this Symposium is to promote education and interest in jewelry design and metalsmithing and to support activities that would lead to the technical and aesthetic development of Texas Tech University students and the community at large, as well as familiarizing preeminent educators and scholars with Texas Tech University and the Jewelry Design and Metalsmithing program. 

Registration Info:  Symposium is open to the public and is free of charge. However, participants MUST register before they can attend the symposium as there is limited seating; registration is on a first come first serve basis. Contact rebecca.a.beals@ttu.edu to register. Maps and parking information will be provided via email upon online registration.

Fall Texas Jewelry Metals Symposium 2012 – Artist Short Bios

Lauren McAdams Selden, Assistant Professor of Jewelry Design and Metalsmithing, Stephen F. Austin University. Selden received her MFA from Arizona State University and her BFA from Murray State University. Her work has exhibited nationally and appears in Lark Books' 500 Metal Vessels and 500 Wedding Rings. 

Marilyn DaSilva, Chair of the Jewelry / Metal Arts Program at California College of the Arts since 1987. Da Silva received an MFA from Indiana University and a BS at Bowling Green State University. Da Silva has been featured in numerous books, magazines, and catalogs. She was inducted as a Master Metalsmith to the National Ornamental Metal Museum in 1999. She recently received the honor of being selected as a Fellow of the American Craft Council. Her work is represented by many of the most prestigious galleries in the US.

Susie Ganch, Assistant Professor of Jewelry Design and Metalsmithing, Virginia Commonwealth University. Ganch received her MFA and BS from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Her work is exhibited and housed in numerous collections nationally as well as private collections. Her work is represented by many of the most prestigious galleries in the US. 

Jack DaSilva, Professor of Jewelry Design and Metalsmithing at Evergreen College. Da Silva received an MFA from Indiana University and a BA from San Jose State. Da Silva has been the recipient of numerous grants including two from the Ford Foundation. Da Silva also has work in many museum collections including the Modern Museum of Art in Seoul, Korea and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, England. 

Rebecca A. Beals, is a current Jewelry Design and Metalsmithing MFA candidate at Texas Tech University. Beals received her BFA from East Tennessee State University. She has received several awards including the Helen DeVitt Jones Excellence in Graduate Teaching Award, TTU School of Art Graduate Assistantships and scholarships from 2009-2012, and the NICHE Awards First Place in Student Sculptural Metal Category. Beals has also been in eight professional national juried exhibitions.
