Tuesday's Schedule of Events for Diversity Week
Diversity Week continues today!
Join us to learn more about diversity, how to start open conversations, and how to break stereotypes, all while having fun!

Tuesday, March 24 Schedule of Events:

The Global Concept of Time and Best Practices, Student Union Building Red Raider Lounge, 9:45-10:45 am, hosted by the Ethics Center

The concept of time varies from culture to culture. Please join us for a panel discussion about some expectations of time practice in the U.S., particularly at an academic setting, as well as share with us the concept or practices of time in your culture. The panelists will offer some information about physiology and tips to help better manage time for a successful college and professional career. This event is free and open to all.

Diversity in the Classroom, Student Union Building Lubbock Room, 11:00-12:00 pm, hosted by the College of Education

Multicultural education is one of the most recent attempts to achieve curricular inclusion and it is defined as a variety of strategies used to accommodate cultural differences in teaching and learning. Instead of trying to create a melting pot, these approaches align with new metaphors that describe the classroom as a “tossed salad,” in which society recognizes and values each culture’s unique contribution while recognizing and building on the students’ cultural heritages. This workshop will address the importance of multicultural education and will provide with some strategies in which educators can apply in the classroom.

“A Herstory of #BlackLivesMatter, Part II”, SUB Escondido Theatre, 12:00-1:00 pm, hosted by the Women’s Studies Program

In the spirit of consciousness raising groups, join the Women’s Studies Program for a discussion on the building of the #BlackLivesMatter movement as seen from the eyes of Women of Color on our campus. #BlackLivesMatter was created by Alicia Garza, Special Projects Director, National Domestic Workers Alliance following the death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin. This discussion will be Part II of what we began in February, recognizing Women of Black History. Discussants include; Brionne Dunham, Helen Hailu and Lizz Onasanya. Join us to raise the collective voice of women and acknowledge while women share common experiences, emotions and moments, there are additional factors that affect our lives because of race, class, age, ability, sexual orientation, etc. It is this consciousness that we remind others to view the systems of oppressive institutions as not only interrelated, but bound together and influenced by the intersectional systems of society.

Green Zone Training, Student Union Building Escondido Theatre, 1:30-3:00 pm, hosted by Military & Veterans Programs

This program will help students, faculty, and staff gain a better understanding of the student veteran population at Texas Tech.

The learning outcomes for this program are as follows:
1. Describe the current veteran population at Texas Tech.
2. Summarize the benefits available for student veterans and their dependents.
