The Climate Science Center is Looking for an Intern!

The mission of the Climate Science Center at Texas Tech University is to address the interactive effects of climate variability across the full array of landscapes within the South Central region of the U.S. We provide the science, tools, and information to link regional climate variability to soil processes, plant productivity, patterns of biodiversity, conservation initiatives, ecosystem services, water policy and planning, agricultural production, rural economic preparedness, sustainability of natural and agroecosystems, as well as communicating with stakeholders to develop and apply this information to real-world decision making and planning across the Southern Plains. 

Possible tasks for the intern include:

  • Assisting the Climate Science Center (CSC) researchers in the development of written and visual content for the CSC and its website.
  • Creating newsletter content.
  • Routinely posting to Twitter and Facebook about relevant news and events.
  • Attending the CSC seminar series and other events, interviewing speakers, and reporting on presented research. 
  • Coordinating and assisting with visiting climate experts and professionals. 
  • Other activities within the CSC as needed.

Candidate qualifications include:

  • Interest in the climate system.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills.
  • Proficiency with social media, including Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube.
  • Proficiency with word processors and spreadsheets.
  • Experience in web or graphic design a plus.
  • Ability to work independently to complete tasks without direct supervision.
  • Comfortable engaging with a wide variety of professionals on environmental topics.

The internship is available fall, spring, and/or summer semesters. The candidate may be able to earn credit hours while gaining valuable work experience!
