Summer II Grad Class on Young-Adulthood Transitions
Becoming an adult takes longer today than in previous generations, at least by traditional markers. Within the last several decades, the typical age at first marriage in the U.S. has gone from the early 20s to closer to 30 today. Pursuit of advanced degrees, delays in establishing one's career, and moving back home with one's parents ("Boomerang Kids") are all characteristics of today's emerging adults. Why is this so? Do these trends differ in different regions of the U.S., and compared to other countries? What can be done to aid emerging adults in their transitions? These questions and others will be addressed in HDFS 6363-001, Advanced Topics in Human Development, during Summer II.
