Research Participants Needed Who Have NO Personal or Family History of Addiction
A research study is being conducted that examines the brain activity of family members of recovering alcoholics/drug addicts, and we are currently looking for a comparison group of people who have NO personal or family history of alcoholism/addiction. More specifically, we are searching for any parent, step-parent, or married spouse who can indicate that they have no immediate family members who have been diagnosed with an addiction/dependency over the span of three generations. That is, those that can confirm that they have no parents, step-parents, spouses, siblings, step or half-siblings, children or step-children with a diagnosed dependency/addiction).
Participants will complete a physiological (brain imaging, heartbeat, muscle movement, etc.) and psychological assessment lasting approximately 1.5 hours on Texas Tech campus. Study requires reading several psychological measures. Qualifying participants will be compensated $25 for their time. If interested, please send your contact information to hs.family.recovery@ttu.edu. A brief telephone interview will be conducted to determine eligibility.
This study has been IRB approved (#504444) and is directed by Dr. Sterling T. Shumway. He can be contacted at 806.742.2891806.742.2891 x260 or sterling.shumway@ttu.edu
