SEXISM | CINEMA SERIES PRESENTS "Bridesmaids”
Annie (Kristen Wiig) is facing relationship and professional difficulties when her best friend Lillian (Maya Rudolph) asks her to serve as maid of honor in Lillian's upcoming nuptials. Hilarity ensues as Annie navigates her turbulent love life, career setbacks, and her maid of honor duties along with fellow bridesmaids (Melissa McCarthy, Rose Byrne, Ellie Kemper, & Wendi McLendon-Covey). Wear your bridesmaids and groomsmen attire to WIN PRIZES in our costume contest.

Dr. Elizabeth Sharp is an associate professor in the Human Development & Family Studies department and a Women's Studies affiliate faculty member at TTU. Dr. Sharp uses feminist framings to focus on the interplay among gendered and familial ideologies. Specifically, her work looks at the ways in which hegemonic femininities operate in women’s lives in a variety of (shifting) positions: as single women, as (new) wives, as women positioned in various socio-economic groups, as women claiming various racial-ethnic identities, as child-free women, and as women in recovery from an eating disorder.

Admission is $3 for everyone and can be purchased at the Alamo prior to the film or online at https://drafthouse.com/lubbock/

Fifty years ago, the term “sexism” was coined. In light of this historical marker, Alamo Drafthouse and TTU invite you to a film series which considers how sexism is embedded, endorsed, and/or challenged in the cinema. How far have we come? How far do we have to go? We have selected films with female protagonists to view and discuss at Alamo Drafthouse, Lubbock. Movies will begin at 7:00pm with a brief introduction. The films will be followed by a 30 minute discussion led by TTU faculty members and expert guest speakers. Mark your calendars now!
