Research Study on how the brain responds to food cues in the environment.

Research Study on how the brain responds to food cues in the environment.

Texas Tech University Department of Nutritional Sciences: Behavioral Medicine & Translational Research (BMTR) lab.

What will I be asked to do?
You will follow a nutritionally balanced, low calorie diet for 3 weeks. You will also be asked to participate in a special type of MRI scan where we can ask you questions, show you pictures, and see how your brain reacts. It's called a 'functional' MRI (fMRI) scan. You just lie on a table and are placed inside a 'tunnel' that allows us to image your brain. You will do it once at the start, and then 3 weeks later at the end of your diet intervention. This is not a weight loss program but a side effect of the diet may be some weight loss.

You can be considered to participate in this study if:
1. You are a male or female within the ages of 19-60 years of age.
2. You are within the BMI range of 30-39.9 kg/m2 (obese).
3. You have not been involved in a weight loss program in the past 3 months.
4. You are not a smoker or abuser of alcohol.

Compensation of $140 for your time (several visits) is included.
