SEXISM | CINEMA SERIES PRESENTS "Clueless”
Based on the Jane Austen novel "Emma", "Clueless" follows heroine Cher Horowitz (Alicia Silverstone). Joined by friends Di (Stacey Dash) and Murray (Donald Faison) as well as her stepbrother Josh (Paul Rudd), Cher helps new student Tai (Brittany Murphy) navigate the world of their upscale Beverly Hills high school and budding romances. Cher quickly begins to question though who is truly clueless.

Dr. Marta Kvande is an associate professor in the Texas Tech Department of English. Dr. Kvande specializes in eighteenth-century British literature, with particular interests in women writers, the history of the novel, narrative, the Gothic, and the history of the book. Her co-edited collection, Everyday Revolutions: Eighteenth Century Women Transforming Public and Private, is published by the University of Delaware Press.

Admission is $3 for everyone and can be purchased at the Alamo prior to the film or in advance online at https://drafthouse.com/lubbock/. We encourage all members of the TTU and Lubbock community to attend.

Fifty plus years ago, the term “sexism” was coined. In light of this historical marker, Alamo Drafthouse and TTU invite you to a film series which considers how sexism is embedded, endorsed, and/or challenged in the cinema. How far have we come? How far do we have to go? We have selected films with female protagonists to view and discuss at Alamo Drafthouse, Lubbock. Movies will begin at 7:00pm with a brief introduction. The films will be followed by a 30 minute discussion led by TTU faculty members and expert guest speakers. Mark your calendars now!
