The individual will have opportunities to work collaboratively with other team members to perform molecular research studies and new technologies for breeding sorghum hybrids.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Assist scientists with molecular laboratory procedures and techniques. Activities may include lab organization, washing and sterilization of lab-ware, making chemical solutions, DNA and RNA extractions, gel electrophoresis, plant tissue culture, PCR, qPCR, data recording and analyses.
- Activates also include phenotyping and collecting leaf samples in field. Harvesting seeds and planting in greenhouse.
Qualifications:
- Background in biology, crop science or biochemistry.
- Must have strong work ethic, ability to multi-task, be detail oriented, and have the desire to work in laboratory, greenhouse and field settings.
- Requires excellent communication skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- Must be reliable and capable of working independently as well as part of a team.
Expectation of 10-20 hours/week (hours are flexible).
