Diversity Week continues today!

Join us to learn more about diversity, how to start open conversations, and how to break stereotypes, all while having fun!

Thursday, March 26 Schedule of Events:

Unanswered Questions, Student Union Building Escondido Theatre,11:00-1:00 pm, hosted by Student Government Association

Eager to understand the world around you? Ever wonder how the economic and political ramifications of a global event influence the United States? Curious to learn about how or why people in Asia and the Middle East carry on their traditions to this day and how those traditions shape their personalities? For answers to all these questions and more please join the Texas Tech University Student Government Association’s Diversity Committee as they host the Dialog Institute Southwest. This institute grew out of the need to address the question, "How can citizens of the world live in peace and harmony?" It was established in 2002 as a non-profit organization. Scholars and experts from the Institute along with Texas Tech renowned faculty are excited to answer your questions on politics, economics, religion, society, and world news in order to bring us one step closer to living in peace and build understanding between one another.. Take a Seat, Make a Friend, Free Speech Area, 11:00-3:00 pm, hosted by the Residence Halls Association

Come join the RHA Leadership Inclusion Team at Take A Seat, Make A Friend. We will provide you with an opportunity to meet new people, learn new things about different cultures, all while sitting in a ball pit! Reconciliation in the “Gays vs. Christians” Debate: Difficult Dialogue on Christian Allyhood
, Student Union Building Red Raider Lounge, 1:00-3:00 pm, hosted by the Student Counseling Center and the Cross-Cultural Academic Advancement Center

Join the TTU Student Counseling Center and the Cross-Cultural Academic Advancement Center in a thought-provoking dialogue focused on reconciliation in the “gays vs. Christians” debate. We will engage in discussion and explore the question of whether gay and Christian identities can co-exist. Specifically, discussion will focus on the following topics: 1) acknowledgement of the pain and trauma that LBGTQ students face in Christian opposition to queer-identity and gay civil rights, 2) acknowledgment of how homophobia and sexism are experienced in religious communities and university settings, and 3) exploration of the conflict that emerges when people attempt to embrace Christian values while being allies. Recovery Panel, Student Union Building Senate Room, 2:00-3:00, hosted by the Association of Students About Service

The diversity of being a person in recovery for an addiction is not often known or talked about. Come here from a panel of Texas Tech students in recovery and the resiliency they find in their diversity. After the students share, there will be a chance to ask questions.


Battle of the Sexes, Agricultural Education Building Room 102, 5:30-7:00, hosted by MentorTech

Come out to Battle of the Sexes, a fun and interactive way to learn about different cultures and issues! This game show will have guys and girls competing against each other in order to win prizes.


ONE RACE, many cultures, ONE LOVE!!!: Film Screening and Q&A, Student Union Building Escondido Theatre, 6:30-8:00 pm, hosted by the Student Counseling Center, Brionne Dunham, Women of Color, Women’s Studies Program

Come watch a video created by Brionne Dunham, freshman in Media Strategies and Women’s Studies, where she interviewed TTU students, faculty, and staff on their reactions to social justice issues at TTU. Brionne also asked participants how TTU can create more unity and encourage more students to share their cultural experiences beyond black history month. We will watch the film and then have Q&A focused on unity and how to overcome oppression and segregation among various cultural communities at TTU. Belly Dance and Salsa Workshop, Rec Center Room 114, 7:15-8:15 pm, hosted by Recreational Sports

Join Bryanne Verlarde (Belly Dance) and Jaime Cantu (Salsa Dance) in a 30 minute per format introductory workshop of the basic moves of Belly Dance and Salsa Dance. The workshop will highlight the on-going classes that the Student Recreational Center offers. These classes are concentrated in technique and form of these dances.


Late Night Movie: Annie, Student Union Building Escondido Theatre, 10:00 pm, hosted by Tech Habitat for Humanity

Tech Habitat is a service organization dedicated to serving the community and fulfilling the goal of eliminating substandard housing for low income families in the Lubbock community by building safe and affordable houses. Tech Habitat would like to invite you to join them in watching the premiere of Annie. We hope that you come out and learn more about what we do and how we would like to help you serve your campus and city community.
