Guns Up, Guns Down: A Cultural Response to Campus Carry

The College of Visual and Performing Arts invites you to "Guns Up, Guns Down: A Cultural Response to Campus Carry," a showcase of art and literature created in response to the passing of Senate Bill 11, which legalizes the carrying of concealed handguns into buildings on public universities in Texas.  Texas Tech is currently in the process of establishing policies that comply with the legislation while maintaining campus security and protecting academic freedom.  This is a state-wide conversation that affects all public institutes of higher education, and we invite any and all to consider an artist's stake in the discussion.  Works include readings of poetry and drama, performances of original compositions, and a display of visual art; information on the legislation, campus safety, gun culture, and gun violence will be interwoven throughout.

"Guns Up, Guns Down" is on Saturday, Dec. 5th at 7pm in the TTU Laboratory Theatre and is free to the public.  Please note that seating is limited.  Audiences will be invited to engage with the work via social media by posting pictures, videos, and commentary with the hashtags #gunsupgunsdown and #ttu.  Please contact Jared Strange (jared.strange@ttu.edu) with any inquiries.
